Bertrand Russell letters and typescript, 1940-1964.

The collection includes five letters and one typescript, including: to Miss Balch, 6 June 1940, describing how the need to defeat Nazism has altered his views of World War II; two letters to Mr. Heineman, 16 and 28 Nov. 1959, giving his views on limited war, and describing a campaign planned by him and Einstein to speak out against nuclear war; to Mrs. Clara Urquhart, 4 May 1964, praising her letter and enclosing a copy of his own, on the topic of Albert Schweitzer; to Mr. Horst Mahncke, 8 May 1964, accompanying literature on a recently formed Peace Foundation. Also, signed typescript by Russell with the title Theory of Knowledge, about his own experiences and his evolving theory of knowledge in relation to contemporary trends.
